In which areas do you expect PostgreSQL to grow most and how does your company contribute to and benefit from that growth?
I think like many people we are blown away by the huge growth in Postgres in the past few years. Not only does it remain the #1 choice for developers for new applications and enterprises moving from legacy databases, but it is the default database for agentic platforms. It appears that agents are now spinning up more Postgres databases than humans. We can reasonably expect these trends to continue and even accelerate.
Our company is aiding and participating in this growth by delivering agentic AI tooling on top of our hardened pgEdge Enterprise Postgres platform and our new pgEdge Starfleet offering. This includes an MCP server, a RAG server, fast database branching, and agentic monitoring and database administrations.
Since our target audience is large enterprises, particularly those in regulated industries and government, we focus on providing these agentic AI capabilities in a manner that allows them to still meet their requirements for compliance, security, high availability and the ability to deploy to production in either cloud or on-premises environments.
How does PostgreSQL help you bring value to your customers?
PostgreSQL provides a reliable, extensible, and standards-based database foundation. Because it is open source, proven at scale, and licensed under the OSI-approved PostgreSQL license, customers can adopt Postgres with confidence, knowing they are free from vendor lock-in and have full transparency into the technology they depend on.
What is your PostgreSQL centered product?
pgEdge Enterprise Postgres is a supported, enterprise-grade distribution of PostgreSQL that includes a curated set of extensions and tools required for mission-critical workloads and AI native development. In addition to pgEdge innovations such as Spock for active-active logical replication, we deliver agentic AI tooling such as an MCP server, a RAG server and our AI DBA workbench for agentic monitoring and database administration. pgEdge Enterprise Postgres is available as self-hosted software that runs on VMs, containers, or under Kubernetes orchestration, with full 24x7 enterprise support.
Our new pgEdge Starfleet cloud Postgres offering combines the features developers love – easy sign up, great developer experience and comprehensive AI tooling – with the requirements enterprises need, such as security, compliance, high availability and flexible production deployment options, including on-premises.
What makes your company a great place to work?
What makes pgEdge a great place to work is the pgEdge team, who are not only smart and highly motivated but also kind and thoughtful. We are a mission-driven and values-driven company, encapsulated in our "EPIC3" values of empathy, passion, integrity, curiosity, and customer-centeredness. In addition, we are a remote-first globally distributed company tapping into exceptional Postgres talent from around the world.
Which of your company's contributions to the PostgreSQL Project (code/community/conference/sponsorship) are you most proud of?
For a relatively small company we feel we punch well above our weight in the Postgres community. Our team are active members of the Postgres community and include a core team member, significant contributors, members of the PgUS, PGCA and PGEU boards, along with conference and user group organizers.
Additionally, all our Postgres-related IP is made available to the community as open source projects under the PostgreSQL license. This includes our Spock and related extensions for active-active logical replication, our MCP server, our AI DBA Workbench, and more.
