Storytelling for Technical Communication
Good technical ideas, solutions, and projects get lost when they are not well communicated. This community event is a hands-on workshop to learn using storytelling in technical communication, helping you shape your presentations, present project results, submit feature requests, and communicate technical content more clearly and effectively.
About
Good technical ideas, solutions, and projects get lost when they are not well communicated. Think about losing track of a presentation because you don't know where it is going, or a software feature request where the developers reject it because they don't know why it is needed or which problem it solves. Furthermore, on average, good technical folks are not automatically very skilled in communicating, especially to those who are not so technical.
Often we are advised to use stories to improve communication, particularly during presentations. But we are rarely told how to tell a story, how to shape it, and what types of stories we should tell, especially when we are talking about technical content. This workshop makes storytelling concrete: it is a technique and skill that can be learned with concrete steps, tips and guidelines to follow.
This community event is a hands-on workshop to learn using storytelling in technical communication. It will help you not only to shape your presentations, but also to present project results, submit feature requests or bug reports, or present new features of a software release. During the workshop, we will introduce you to concrete techniques of storytelling, and we will use them in exercises where we will give feedback to each other, targeting clearer technical communication.
Feel free to bring your own technical story, project update or upcoming presentation to practice with. Using your own project will only increase the learning of this workshop.
