About
How do we attract the next generation of casual developers and database users to PostgreSQL? By making it incredibly easy to start. This working group will bring together community members, educators, and advocates to discuss the current gap in official beginner training materials and collaborate on solutions, such as creating a modern "5-Minute Quick Start" guide.
Exposure drives adoption, and adoption grows the community. While Postgres has world-class documentation for professionals, our onboarding for absolute beginners, casual developers, and college students is lacking. Often, entry-level job descriptions omit databases entirely, leaving recent graduates to realize they need these crucial skills only a couple of years into their careers.
This Community Day event is not a training session, but an active, collaborative working group. We will map out the missing stepping stones for newcomers. Our goals for this session include:
- Analysing the Gap: Discussing the divide between the current official tutorial and modern developer experience (DX) expectations.
- Brainstorming Solutions: Outlining what a "5-Minute Quick Start" guide should look like for the modern web or application developer.
- Defining Next Steps: Creating a roadmap for drafting, reviewing, and proposing new introductory materials for the community.
This working group is for anyone passionate about community growth, developer advocacy, technical writing, and education. We also highly encourage students and recent graduates to join us. You do not need to be an expert to attend; we specifically need the perspectives of those who understand the modern developer journey and the hurdles newcomers face.
