New PostgreSQL Community Members - Summit
PostgreSQL has a large and welcoming community, but for newcomers it is not always clear how to get started, stay connected, contribute, or know who to reach out to. This interactive half day workshop is designed to help new and aspiring contributors explore the PostgreSQL ecosystem and build meaningful connections with experienced community members across different areas of activity.
About
PostgreSQL has a large and welcoming community, but for newcomers it is not always clear how to get started, stay connected, contribute, or know who to reach out to. Key parts of the ecosystem, such as the website, PostgreSQL Wiki, mailing lists, release cycles, community events, and supporting infrastructure, can be difficult to navigate at first.
This interactive half day workshop is designed to help new and aspiring contributors explore the PostgreSQL ecosystem and build meaningful connections with experienced community members across different areas of activity.
Participants will gain an understanding of how the community is structured, how to engage with it, and the many ways they can contribute. They will also develop a clearer picture of how collaboration works in practice. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have identified their own path into the community and will leave with concrete next steps and relevant contacts to support their continued journey.
The session includes:
- Welcome & framing with an introduction to the PostgreSQL community
- Guided orientation: a structured walkthrough of key ecosystem elements such as communication channels, the PostgreSQL Wiki, CommitFest and release cycles, and community events
- Individual presentations from representatives of main PostgreSQL infrastructure with Q&A
The session is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and highly interactive, helping lower barriers to participation and making it easier for new members to become active contributors.
